Since the technique’s development in 2010, tape-in extensions have gained rapid traction in the world of hair. Of course, who wouldn’t want long-lasting hair extensions that are easy to install, inexpensive, reusable, and safe?
Private Label offers a variety of tape-ins in 16, 18, and 20” lengths at our Atlanta location. Our tape-ins look and feel like real hair because that’s what they are! We use virgin hair in various curl patterns that can be styled and lightened just like your own natural hair.
Whether you’re new or old to this option, we want you to get the most out of your next extension install. Let’s jump into some basics on what tape-in extensions are and how they can benefit you.
So, what are Tape-In Extensions?
Let’s start here: what are they?
Tape-ins are short strips of hair extensions, about 1.5 inches long, with tape at the weft. This tape is 100% medical grade, designed for use in hair and near skin. They are professionally installed by sandwiching a thin section of your natural hair between two wefts at the root and secured with pressure using a special tool.
When installed correctly, your extensions will grow with your natural hair and should last about 6-8 weeks.
What Types of Hair are Good for Tape-Ins?
Tape-ins are great for any kind of hair!
The beauty of tape-ins is that they install and hold well on all hair types. Because Private Label uses 100% virgin human hair, you can choose a curl pattern that matches your own and style the way you normally do.
Do you want more length? We’ve got you.
Do you need volume? That’s what we’re here for.
Do you just want to fill in some thin spots? Not an issue.
Our associates at the Atlanta location are more than happy to help you navigate our selection and choose what will work best for you.
Why Should I Choose Tape-ins Over Other Extension Types?
That’s all a matter of personal preference, so let me just give you some benefits to help you weigh your options.
Time
Getting tape-ins installed is so fast and easy. A full head takes only about 60 minutes!
Did I mention that tape-ins are a great semi-permanent option, lasting 6 – 8 weeks?
Money
Excellent quality hair extensions don’t have to break the budget. Private Label strives to give you the best quality possible at a reasonable price. In fact, our extensions can help you save money in the long run because they’re reusable.
When it’s time to change your look or just touch up your existing style, our tape-ins can be stripped, re-taped, and put back in. Replacement tape is available in our Atlanta store.
Pain and Damage-Free
Properly installed tape-ins shouldn’t hurt.
They’re installed snug enough at the root to give you as much time with your new hair as possible, but they don’t cause pain. You can lay on your extensions without the fear of any sharp or hard parts digging into your scalp, and they only add as much weight to your head as you feel in the package.
When it’s time for your extensions to come out, you can do so without worrying about pain or damage. Just saturate the wefts with our Private Label Citrus Oil Extract or Alcohol Extract adhesive removers and slide the tape-ins down the hair shaft.
Subtlety
Not everyone wants other people to know they have extensions in.
Tape-ins are designed to lay flat on the head to avoid that dreaded bump you can see with some other extension styles. Not only that, but you can control how thick you want your hair to be and where to place the wefts.
A good head of tape-ins should be virtually invisible, and telling your stylist how you like to wear your hair will help them place the extensions wisely.
Maintaining Your Tape-ins
Tape-ins are a great low-maintenance option, but there are some things you need to know to keep those gorgeous locks in the best shape possible.
Before Your Install
Make sure your hair and scale are clean and free of any oils and silicones before your appointment. The medical glue used on tape-ins can be weakened by oil and strong chemicals, so you’ll want to protect the integrity of the glue before it even touches your head.
If you’ll be coloring your hair and extensions, you’ll also want this done ahead of time. If you do change your mind and decide you’d like to color your hair later, wait at least 48 hours before doing so.
Washing and Hair Products
After your installation, wait at least 48 hours to wash your hair. This gives the glue time to set up and will maximize the life of your extensions.
To the girlies who love washing their hair daily, I have bad news for you. If you want to minimize slippage, hair should only be washed a few times a week: the fewer, the better.
Avoid hair oils when possible and opt for gentle hair care products, especially in cases where the hair has been lightened or colored. We stock special adhesive care shampoo and conditioner in our Atlanta location to help you care for those tresses.
Styling
You can style your hair almost any way you normally do with some precautions. Never brush your hair when it’s wet, and avoid over-brushing in general. When running a brush through hair, avoid snagging the glue at the root and support your extensions by holding firm at the top of your head.
When using heat to style, make sure hair is 80% dry first. Flat irons and curlers should be kept away from the scalp to avoid premature melting or breaking down of the adhesives.
Sleeping
Protective hairstyles will be your best friend. Sleep with hair in a braid or pony secured with a satin scrunchie. Silk and satin pillowcases are always recommended, and a bonnet is even better.
Not only does this protect you from the chance of snagging or slipping glue strips at night, you also will avoid roughing up the cuticle which could cause frizz and dry damage.
